Brownstones
are prominent in Boston. A brownstone is a terrace or rowhouse in brown
or red stone brick. They are sometimes called 'rowhouses' because developers
often built a number of identical-looking brownstone units next to each other
on the same street. Brownstone buildings are generally older than other types
of housing - built mostly in the 1800s, have beautiful architectural detailing,
and are located in some of the most desirable neighborhoods of Boston. Most
brownstones are between three and five stories tall.

Many
Boston mid rises were also built in the 1800s. They feature historic detail
and many have an elevator. Most brownstones were originally constructed to be
used as single family homes and then later were converted into condominium units.
Mid-rises were constructed to be what they are today; four to twelve floor buildings
with multiple units. Mid rises tend not to have a "chopped up" feeling and feature
practical floor plans with closet space. This may not the case however if the
building was originally a hotel and then later converted into residential units.
Luxury
full service Boston buildings host an abundance of amenities to help make life
easy. Common amenities include elevators both passenger & service, private
designated storage rooms, large common roof deck, courtyards, 24-7 concierge,
live-in superintendent, gyms, doorman assisted parking, professional management,
common libraries and/or entertaining rooms, and magnificent skyline views.
